Information about the conditions cared for at this location:
Korsakoff's Syndrome
The Arbennig Unit was opened in 2002 for people with Korsakoff's syndrome. Arbennig is a residential facility specialising in the rehabilitation and continuing care for up to 20 people with Alcohol Acquired Brain Injury known as Korsakoff's, providing an environment that is both positive and supportive. We cater for both men and women, from the age of 18 to 65 years.
Arbennig is divided into three units: two consist of accommodation for upto six service users each and contain a lounge/diner, smoking room, kitchen and laundry. The third unit is split into self-contained apartments designed for independent living but with access to all the facilities and support services of the home.
OUR SERVICE
With the right kind of specialist services, people can manage their own health and welfare. Through supportive intervention from our specially trained staff we enable people to move forward to maintain a meaningful place in their community.
Taking a non-judgemental approach to previous behaviours, we encourage rebuilding of life skills, self esteem and contribute to a new beginning. It is our view that our service users can benefit from our tailored, person-centered care packages based upon a social model to maximise their abilities. We aim to assist in building self-esteem and supporting service users towards a new beginning.
WE PROVIDE:
- Rehabilition programmes;
- Group work;
- One to one counselling;
- Education;
- Social interaction;
- New learning skills;
- Outreach work and support.
Of all the services Arbennig provides, there are threads which run through all of them; person centred care plans for people to be supported as individuals and flexibility to meet any kind of situation and to actively encourage moving on to achieve greater independence. As important as any of these threads is professionalism. Support without a professional approach and infrastructure doesn't work.
STAFF TEAM & DEVELOPMENT
At Arbennig, staff are trained above the minimum standards laid down by our inspecting body, the Care Standards Inspectorate Wales (CSIW). Outcomes are measured and assessed. This is reflected by the number of statutory agencies, both local and throughout the UK, that now use our unit. Above all, our success is shown in the number of people who are today leading fuller, happier and more independent lives.
