Westhead Community Home

Westhead Community Home is a registered care home for six service users with learning disabilities, both male and female from 18-65 years. The home is not suitable for wheelchair users and does not provide nursing care.

Westhead is a modern house that is well furnished and in good decorative order. There are six bedrooms, two on the ground floor and four on the first floor. Two of these have their own front door and a basic kitchen which can be used for a more independent lifestyle.

There is a secluded rear garden with a rural aspect. The house is in a quiet cul de sac in the village of Westhead. It is in walking distance of two local pubs. The market town of Ormskirk offering a variety of community services, shops and entertainment is two miles away and easily reached by public transport or taxi.

OUR SERVICE

Our aim is to provide service users with learning disabilities the opportunity to live in a small group home. To help achieve this objective we:

• Have made the surroundings as homely as possible;
• Have regular service user meetings that involve the individual in the decision making process encouraging service user choice;
• Have nominated members of staff to act as key workers;
• Ensure everyone carries out daily implementation of care plans;
• Ensure opportunities are given to develop independence skills;
• Strive to improve and continue to develop the service in line with individual changing needs;
• Service users are to be allowed freedom of choice, privacy, dignity, rights, independence and fulfilment.

The home encourages and supports service users to keep all links with family and friends. Everyone has access to the computer to communicate via webcam and email with family and friends worldwide.
