Learning Disabilities

The Woodlands offers quality care and support for ten men and women with learning disabilities and moderate behavioural difficulties, between the ages of 18 and 65 years.

Our aim at The Woodlands is to provide a stimulating environment and ensuring the quality of life and the creation of a safe and homely environment. The care and support received is tailored to the individual and these will be dictated in a manner of approach, attitude and degree of support offered by the staff team.

We place an emphasis on maximising independence and supporting individuals to develop their social and interpersonal skills. We are committed to providing a person-centred service in partnership with the individual. The working partnership involves four main principles of trust, positive regards, shared learning and equality.

Daily activities are fundamentally based on basic life principles and geared towards encouraging greater independence. Service users are encouraged as much as possible to contribute to the general cleaning, upkeep and other aspects of the running of the home. This offers a routine and structure of daily life and the opportunity to develop skills. The home also uses outside sources including colleges to promote independence and encourage interests in alternative activities.
